Countries operate as separate political entities and are presumably all monarchies, ruled by Clans who stand equally in rank with the Hidden Villages, Queen Cyclone and Queen Peach. Ancient Izumo is similar to feudal Japan in many aspects; those countries maintain balance between themselves through nothing but power.
Izumogakure (出雲の国, Izumonokuni) is one of the largest and most powerful countries and and the home of the Four Noble Clans, a custom other countries would soon adopt. Izumokagure is appropriately oriented towards the Legacy of the X Clan.
Earth Land (アースランド Āsu Rando) is one of the largest and most powerful countries and and the home of the Fairy Tail Universe.

To the west of the kingdom can often be seen a desert, forests to the south and south-east and a mountain range to the east and north-east.
